The story behind the sideline
Photographer. Coach. Parent. U.S. Coast Guard veteran. Same guy, same camera, every game.
Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, but it wasn't always my career.
I served as a U.S. Coast Guard Public Affairs Specialist, where I learned that the best photographs aren't manufactured. They're earned through trust, patience, and being ready when the moment happens.
After earning my photography degree from Oregon State University, life took me in a different direction. I spent more than two decades leading product teams for some of the most recognized names in performance footwear, helping build gear that athletes and outdoor enthusiasts rely on around the world. It was demanding, rewarding work that taught me how to listen, solve problems, and obsess over every detail.
But photography never left.
As a coach, a husband, and the father of two, I found myself back on the sidelines — not just watching games but watching moments. The quiet focus before the first pitch. The celebration after a hard-fought win. The look between parents when they realize how fast their kids are growing up.
Those are the moments that matter. That's why I created Sideline Studio PDX.
Today I work with athletes, seniors, and families across the Portland area. My goal isn't just to make beautiful images. It's to tell honest stories you'll still connect with years from now.
Whether I'm shooting a state championship, a senior stepping into the next chapter, or a family spending an evening together, I want the experience to feel relaxed, genuine, and personal. The best images happen when people stop thinking about the camera and simply become themselves.
Sideline Studio PDX comes down to a simple belief: every athlete deserves images that reflect the work, determination, and passion that got them there, and every family deserves photographs that still feel true down the road.
